To be a taxi driver, hire car driver, bus driver or driving instructor in Victoria you need to get an accreditation from the Taxi Services Commission.
The Taxi Services Commission (TSC) is responsible for administering all regulatory functions for taxis, hire vehicles, commercial passenger vehicles and the Multi Purpose Taxi Programme (MPTP).
Applying for driver accreditation
Metropolitan Taxi or Hire Car Accreditation or Driving Instructor Authority
To apply for a Metropolitan Taxi or Hire Car Accreditation or Driving Instructor Authority call the TSC on 1800 638 802 (toll free).
VicRoads does not accept:
- applications or renewals for a Driver Instructor Authority
- applications or Exemptions for the Multi Purpose Taxi Programme
- applications for Metropolitan Taxi and Hire Car Accreditation.
Commercial Passenger Vehicle and Bus Driver Accreditation
If you are applying for a Commercial Passenger Vehicle and Bus Driver Accreditation including the following types of vehicles:
- country taxis and hire cars
- commercial bus services
- local bus services
- wedding vehicles
- tour vehicles.
You can lodge your application by mail or in person at the Taxi Services Commission.
Application forms can be found at the TSC website, collected at their office or at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre.
Applications are not assessed by VicRoads and will be sent to the TSC for assessment. They will notify you if your application has been successful.
Renewing your Driver Accreditation
Driver Accreditation renewal forms are sent by the TSC. If you have not received your renewal form contact them directly.
You can lodge your completed renewal application by visiting the TSC website or a VicRoads Customer Service Centre and paying the fee.
VicRoads will not process your renewal, your renewal will be forwarded to the TSC for processing.
Replacement Driver Accreditation
Drivers can apply directly to the TSC to apply for a replacement driver accreditation.
Replacement Driver Accreditation Photo ID
Taxi Drivers can apply directly to the TSC or at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre.
No fee applies for a replacement Driver Accreditation Photo ID.
