Booking fee refund

The quickest way to claim your refund is online with a myVicRoads account. Booking fee refunds are available from 19 November.

Am I eligible for this refund?

The Victorian Government has waived licence test appointment booking fees from 25 March 2020 to 7 October 2020. If you paid for an appointment that was scheduled during or after this time period, you’ll be eligible to claim a refund on the booking fee of $19. All new appointment booking fees will also be waived until April.

Please do not call us to claim your refund. We will contact all eligible customers directly for the refund by email or SMS between 23 November and 11 December.

Appointments eligible for a booking fee refund are:

  • Road Knowledge Test (Learner Test)
  • Hazard Perception Test
  • Drive Tests.

How to claim your refund

You can only claim your refund is online via your myVicRoads account. If you don’t already have an account, you can sign-up using the customer number sent to you by email or SMS as part of our communication to eligible customers.

Appointments made through local councils or VicRoads agencies

If your appointment was booked through your local council or VicRoad agency, you’ll be able to claim your booking fee refund online from 19 November by providing details of your council appointment through a claims process. 

To claim your refund online, you'll need to provide:

  • Your personal details and
  • Details of your appointment(s) for us confirm your eligibility for refund.

Your claim will be assessed within 2-3 business days, and if approved a cheque will be sent to your address within 4 weeks.

Which customers are eligible for the refund?

As part of our service recovery and resumption of services in metropolitan Melbourne, the Victorian Government will waive the $19 appointment fee as a good will gesture for anyone that has been impacted with the suspension of key services.

How will VicRoads contact me to let me know I’m eligible for the refund? 

We will contact all customers who are eligible for an appointment fee refund directly by email or SMS between 23 November and 11 December.

When can I claim the refund? 

You’ll be able to claim the booking fee refund of $19 online from 19 November 2020 until 31 January 2021. 

What fees are refundable?

When you booked your licence test, you would have paid for the licence test and also a $19 booking fee. Only the $19 booking fee has been waived between 25 March 2020 and 7 October 2020, so only the booking fee is refundable for each appointment scheduled during this period. All new appointment booking fees will also be waived until April.

What appointment types are eligible for the booking fee refund?

What do I need to claim the refund?
To claim your refund, you'll need a myVicRoads account and Bank account details for the refund to be processed into. You can sign up to a myVicRoads account with your customer number sent to you as part of our eligible customer communications.
What if I don’t have a myVicRoads account? Can I claim the refund another way? 
If you don’t already have a myVicRoads account, you’ll be able to sign-up using the customer number sent to you as part of our eligible customer communications. All customers must claim via myVicRoads so that funds can be refunded directly into your bank account.
 
Only customers who booked their appointment through their local council or VicRoads agency, will be able to claim their refund through a separate online claims process.
What if I didn’t receive an email or SMS from VicRoads?

If you believe you're eligible for a licence test booking refund and you didn't receive an email or SMS from VicRoads, you can do the following:

  • If you’ve got a learner permit or driver licence, login or sign-up to myVicRoads to claim your refund.
  • If you haven’t got a learner permit or licence yet, use the council refund form to claim your refund. When completing the form:
    • bypass the messaging not to use the form and
    • provide the details of your appointment(s) so we can verify your eligibility for refund.
My friend/parents booked my test, how do they claim the refund? 
Because your appointments were booked in your name, only you can claim a refund for eligible licence test booking fees.
 
If your friend or parents booked the test for you, you can choose to enter their bank account details into refund form within your myVicRoads account, or organise with them after you’ve received the refund to give their money back.
How long does it take to get the refund? 
For refunds claimed via myVicRoads, funds to will be deposited into your bank account within 14 days of your claim. If we’re unable to deposit the funds into your nominated bank account, your refund will be issued as a cheque and sent to your address within 4 weeks.
 
For council refunds, your claim will be assessed within 2-3 business days, and if approved a cheque will be sent to your address within 4 weeks.
Why can’t I see the refund form?
You’ll only be able to claim your refund from 19 November 2020 until 31 January 2021. 

During this claims period, you won’t see the refund notification in your myVicRoads account if:

  • You have already claimed the refund
  • You are ineligible for a refund
