Officials from the Government of Karnataka in India made the trip to Melbourne in late January to seek technical expertise from VicRoads.

Led by the Minister of Public Works, the Honourable Shri H.D Revanna, Karnataka’s Government arrived looking to secure world-class services to help implement their own ambitious $4 billion road infrastructure program.

The 3-day visit showcased road safety, asset management and Intelligent Transport Solutions, to assist the Government of Karnataka in developing solutions tailored to the needs of their state.

Highlights of the visit included an industry roundtable, that brought together the Department of Transport (DoT), Roads Australia, Safe System Solutions Pty Ltd and several road safety technology providers.

During the roundtable, a 'Whole of Victoria' solution was presented to the Government of Karnataka along with ideas and services being pitched.

Head of VicRoads International, Gordon Chakaodza, said the visit was an example of the strong reputation VicRoads has overseas, stating;

"Karnataka joins a long list of international jurisdictions that are looking for assistance from VicRoads to reduce the number of road accidents in their country."

On the final day of the visit, the Honourable Jane Garrett MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Jobs met with Karnataka senior officials and emphasised Victoria's commitment to forge closer economic and trade ties with India as highlighted in the Victorian Government's India Strategy launched by the Premier Daniel Andrews in January 2018.

“It was great to see VicRoads assist the Government of Karnataka to achieve its full potential,” The Honourable Jane Garrett MP said.
