Traffic Alert – Ace your trip to the Australian Open

08 January 2019

As the biggest names in tennis return to Melbourne for the 2019 Australian Open, VicRoads reminds drivers to expect traffic delays over the next two weeks.

Record crowds will hit Melbourne Park from Monday 14 January to Sunday 27 January. Limited parking will be available at Melbourne Park and in Yarra Park at the MCG, so public transport is the best option.

TRAIN: Flinders Street, Parliament, Jolimont and Richmond stations are within walking distance of the sporting precinct. Keep in mind there will be some disruptions for planned works on the Werribee and Williamstown, Sunbury and Frankston lines during this time.

TRAM: Ticket-holders to the Australian Open can enjoy free travel on Route 70 and 70A trams. City Circle trams will run in a clockwise direction only between 9.30am and midday each day, with normal operation at all other times.

BUS: Route 264 runs along Hoddle Street, just a short walk from Melbourne Park.

We suggest people commuting to work as usual during this time avoid the sporting precinct and allow extra time.

If you see any hazards on our roads, please report them to the VicRoads Traffic Management Centre on 13 11 70, open 24/7. In an emergency, call Triple Zero.
