Traffic Alert - Getting around White Night

20 August 2019

White Night returns to the Melbourne CBD with a winter spectacular held across three nights on Thursday 22, Friday 23 and Saturday 24 August.

Public transport is the best way for visitors to get to and from the event, with additional train and tram services operating and all-night travel available on Friday and Saturday.

If you must drive, be prepared for delays. Road closures will be set up to make way for the huge crowds traversing between the Carlton Gardens, Treasury Gardens and Birrarung Marr. Parking will be extremely limited.

On Thursday and Friday nights from 5.30pm, road closures include Lansdowne Street in East Melbourne near the Treasury Gardens, Wellington Parade South and Flinders Street westbound between Spring Street and Exhibition Street.

On Saturday night from 5pm, road closures include:

  • Flinders Street, between Queen and Spring streets
  • Russell and Exhibition streets, between Flinders Lane and Flinders Street
  • Spring Street, between Victoria Parade and Flinders Street
  • Little Bourke and Lonsdale streets, between Exhibition Street and Spring Street
  • Batman Avenue, between Olympic Boulevard and Flinders Street
  • St Kilda Road, between Southbank Boulevard and Flinders Street
  • Spring Street, between Flinders Street and Victoria Street
  • as well as parts of Lansdowne, Macarthur and Nicholson streets

We ask all drivers to be mindful of pedestrians, and to carefully follow the direction of traffic management and emergency services.
