Canning Street Green Wave for Bike Riders

18 March 2021

We’ve made Canning Street safer for bike riders and motorists to share the road from Brunswick to Melbourne’s CBD.

What we’ve done

A green wave occurs when a series of traffic lights are coordinated to give bike riders non-stop passage along a stretch of road, if they maintain a speed.

We also upgraded the intersection of Canning Street and Princes Street by repainting line markings and painting the road surface. We will paint pedestrian crosswalks yellow and bike lanes that cross the intersection green to create dedicated and safe crossings for all road users.

Making the most of the green wave

Bike riders will benefit most from the green wave if they travel between 22 and 26km/h.
