Kings Way, South Melbourne tree works

06 October 2021

The Victorian Government is undertaking tree management works on Kings Way between Park Street and Queens Road in South Melbourne.

Update - October 2021

Due to unforeseen circumstances, this tree management work is now scheduled for Sunday 7 to Tuesday 9 November 2021.

What we’re doing

To keep Kings Way safe for the community and the thousands of road users who rely on it every day, we’re completing tree management works on six of the eight trees planted on the Kings Way median strip between Park Street and Queens Road. These works include:

  • Removal of one tree
  • Pruning and removal of deadwood on 5 trees
  • Climbing inspection of two trees
  • Clean up of vegetation and debris build up on the centre median.

When to expect us

Crews will be on site for three nights from Sunday 7 to Tuesday 9 November 2021. We will be working at night between 8pm and 5am.

The works will be done in two stages to avoid road closures and detours:

  • Stage 1 – West of Albert Road
  • Stage 2 – East of Albert Road

Please note that the dates and times are subject to change due to weather conditions.

How will these works impact you?

During working hours, you may notice:

  • High noise levels as crews remove and mulch branches – we’ll work towards minimising noise as much as possible.
  • Lane closures on Kings Way between Park Street and Albert Road during Stage 1 works.
  • Lane closures on Kings Way between Albert Road and Queens Road during stage 2 works.
  • Safety lights to keep our crews safe
  • A 10 minute delay when moving through the area. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
  • Reduced speeds during works with signage and traffic management crews in place.

Access to local residences and businesses will be maintained, however please be aware that short delays may occur.

Please keep an eye out for changed traffic conditions and temporary limits when moving through the area.
