Western Freeway, Melton, maintenance works

25 August 2021

The Victorian Government is completing road maintenance work on the Western Freeway Ballarat-bound lanes between Coburns Road and Djerriwarrh Creek in Melton.

What we’re doing

To keep Western Freeway safe and reliable for the hundreds of road users who use on it every day, we are undertaking important asphalt resurfacing works to restore the condition of the road surface.

When to expect us

Our crews will be on the site for four nights between Tuesday 31 August and Monday 6 September, excluding Friday and Saturday night, subject to weather conditions.

We will be working at night to minimise traffic disruption and to keep our crews safe.

  • Daytime: Western Freeway open as normal.
  • Night-time from 7pm to 5am: Western Freeway Ballarat-bound lanes closed between Coburns Road, Melton and Gisborne Road, Bacchus Marsh.
  • Detours will be in place with traffic management crews on site to help you move through the area.

Detours will be in place

During the night works, outbound traffic will be detoured via Coburns Road, High Street, Old Western Highway, Bacchus Marsh Road and Gisborne Road.

During these maintenance works, there’ll be:

  • Closure of Ballarat-bout lanes between Coburns Road, Melton and Gisborne Road, Bacchus Marsh.
  • Signed detour in place via Coburns Road, High Street, Old Western Highway, Bacchus Marsh Road and Gisborne Road.
  • Medium noise levels – our contractors will work towards minimising noise as much as possible.
  • Some vibrations and dust around work areas while we remove the existing layer of the road, lay new asphalt, and reinstate the road.
  • A 5 minute delay when moving through the area. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
  • Reduced speeds during works to ensure the safety of crews and motorists.

Works are subject to weather conditions, and the dates may change to accommodate adverse weather.

Traffic management crews will be on site to help you move through the area whilst we complete these important works.

Please keep an eye out for changed traffic conditions and temporary limits when moving through the area.

Please plan ahead, allow extra time, and look out for traffic management signage.

Thank you for your patience while we complete these important works.
