North Road and Poath Road intersection improvements, Murrumbeena

14 June 2022

We’re improving pedestrian safety and traffic flow at the intersection of North Road and Poath Road in Murrumbeena.

About the project

The Victorian government is investing $150,000 to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Poath Road and North Road in Murrumbeena.

In the 5 years leading to June 2020, there were 4 reported crashes at this intersection, including one involving a pedestrian.

This package of works includes the following treatments:

  • An upgrade of three traffic lanterns at the intersection to include turning arrow signals to control vehicles turning right from Poath Road into North Road when pedestrians are crossing North Road.
  • Extension of the right turning lane on the northern leg of the intersection from 65m to 85m (20m increase in length) to improve traffic flow on Poath Road.
  • Installation of a flashing ‘Give Way to Pedestrians’ sign at the south-west corner of the intersection to increase visibility of pedestrians crossing North Road.

When to expect us

Crews will be on site to install these upgrades from September, with crews on site between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Line marking works will be completed over one evening between 8pm and 5am.

During works, there will be:

  • a lane closure in place, with traffic management to help drivers continue travelling in both directions
  • reduced speed limits to keep our crews safe

Please look out for our crews when travelling through this area and be mindful of any temporary safety signage.
