Springvale Road closed between High Street and Highbury Road, Glen Waverley

04 January 2023

Springvale Road will be closed over four nights between High Street and Highbury Road, Glen Waverley between 9pm and 5am, Monday, 13 February to Friday, 17 February.

The closures are in place for crews to work overnight to install two permanent electronic Variable Message Signs to provide drivers with up-to-date travel times and disruptions information along the arterial.

The new signs are part of the Department of Transport’s Smarter Roads Program that will see 12 giant electronic Variable Messaging Signs installed across some of our busiest arterial roads, helping to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.

Drivers should follow the signed detours via Springvale Road, High Street Road, Eastlink, Burwood Highway, Highbury Road and Blackburn Road. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

The major works to install the signs will be undertaken over 4 nights starting at 9 pm on Monday 13 February and ending by 5 am on Friday, 17 February.

  • 9pm Monday, 13 February – 5am Tuesday, 14 February
  • 9pm Tuesday, 14 February – 5am Wednesday 15 February
  • 9pm Wednesday, 15 February – 5am Thursday, 16 February
  • 9pm Thursday, 16 February – 5am Friday, 17 February

We are working at night to minimise disruptions to traffic and keep our crews safe.

Please note while we are aiming for works to be completed by 5am 17 February, dates and times are subject to change due to weather conditions.

Impacts of the works

  • Signed detours and traffic delays up to 10 minutes
  • Reduced speed limits to ensure the safety of crews and all road users
  • Medium to high noise levels – we’ll work towards minimising noise as much as possible
  • Changes to access to some residential properties and businesses along Springvale Road. Access will also be available via Yangin Dr, Highvale Rd, Grantley Drive and Hammence Street
  • The footpath closed on both sides of Springvale Road. Traffic management will be on site to direct pedestrians through the area

There will also be impacts to public transport services from 9pm each evening while works take place.

The following bus routes will not run between High Street and Highbury Road:

The bus routes will follow the above detour route with no stops along the detour route.
