Victoria Street – renewal works road closure

From 9pm, Saturday 4 March 2023 to 5am, Monday 6 March 2023, Victoria Street will be closed to all traffic between Church and Burnley streets.

Road renewal works

The Department of Transport and Planning and Yarra Trams regularly carry out maintenance and renewal work across the tram network to improve operations and passenger experience. As part of this work, we will be resurfacing the road on Victoria Street between Church and Burnley streets, to support tram tracks and improve the tram ride quality along this section of the tram network. 

Victoria Street will be closed to all traffic from 9pm, Saturday 4 March 2023 to 5am, Monday 6 March 2023.

Construction will take place 24 hours a day so that Yarra Trams can complete the works quickly. There will be mostly low levels of noise at night, and short periods of high noise levels are expected when profiling the road during the day.

Getting around

To support you to move around the area during works, detours and traffic management will be in place.

We recommend that road users allow extra travel time for their journey.

There will be temporary footpath closures around the works with local detours in place. Pedestrians should follow signage around the works to cross safely.

Local business

The businesses located around the works will remain open. Please continue to support local businesses during these essential works. 

Public transport

There will be service changes to tram routes 12 and 109. For information about public transport changes during these works, visit the Yarra Trams website.
