We’re removing unsafe trees in Melbourne’s western suburbs, as part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to maintaining major roads and structures across the Western Roads Upgrade network.
These works will be delivered by Netflow and will involve tree trimming and tree removal.
When to expect us
Crews will carry out tree maintenance on Monday to Friday from 7 August to late-November 2023, between 8pm to 5am. Crews will work some days at 9.30am to 3.30pm to minimise impacts to residents.
Crews will be back later this year to plant trees. We’ll keep the community posted when these works are scheduled in.
How will these works impact you?
- Footpath detours on some sections of Federation Trail, with detour signs in place
- Lane closures with traffic controllers on site to help you move through the area safely
- Reduced speeds during works to keep crews and road users safe
- Wood scraps and dust around the work areas
- Short periods of medium to high noise levels and vibrations
- Safety lights within the work area.
What we’re doing
We check and maintain trees every year on the Western Roads Upgrade network to keep community and road users safe.
A detailed assessment by a qualified arborist has identified a number of trees on the network in Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton and Wyndham that need to be removed as they have root or trunk decay, poor structure and are a safety hazard to road users.
We’ll plant at least one tree for every tree that we remove and plant more where possible.
Environmental sustainability is an important part of this project. The Department of Transport and Planning continues to look for ways to improve green spaces along arterial roads where possible while creating better connections for Victorians, as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting greener communities and improving environmental sustainability.
