Baxter-Tooradin Road, Devon Meadows

We’re improving safety along Baxter-Tooradin Road, between Fisheries Road and the South Gippsland Highway in Devon Meadows, as part of Towards Zero

Infrastructure plays a vital role in keeping you safe, which is why we're installing a range of new technologies and proven safety features on roads across the state.

By installing these safety features and improving existing infrastructure, we can prevent serious crashes from happening, or reduce the severity of crashes when they are unavoidable.

Background

Baxter-Tooradin Road is a high-speed route linking Frankston-Flinders Road in Baxter across the most northern section of Western Port Bay to the South Gippsland Highway in Tooradin.

Between 2013 and 2017, 13 people were seriously injured along this stretch of road. Eight of these serious injuries occurred in head-on collisions between vehicles.
We’re improving safety along Baxter-Tooradin Road now, to build a future where no-one is seriously injured or killed on our roads.

Details

We’re exploring safety improvements including:

  • widening lanes and road shoulders to prepare for the installation of new safety barriers
  • installing flexible safety barriers along the left-hand side and centreline of the road to reduce the risk of run-off-road and head-on collisions
  • installing rumble strips in high-risk locations to alert drivers when they begin to veer from their lane.

The project is expected to be completed by 2020.
