Bridge Road works

Bridge Road will be closed to traffic from Sunday 3 January 2021 to Saturday 16 January 2021 to undertake essential tram track maintenance and renewal works.

Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria (PTV) will carry out maintenance and renewal works on Bridge Road in Richmond, as part of a program of works across the network to continue to provide a safe and reliable tram service. 

What is happening
Works will take place to replace tram tracks, poles and overhead wiring on Bridge Road between Church Street and Burwood Road from 11pm Sunday 3 January 2021 to 5am Saturday 16 January 2021. 

The intersection of Bridge Road and Church Street will also be closed to traffic from 2am Thursday 7 January to 5am Tuesday 12 January.

Burnley Street will be closed to traffic from 10pm 6 January until 16 January. Yarra Trams will endeavour to open Burnley Street sooner, if safe to open.   

Construction will take place 24 hours-a-day to complete the works quickly and reduce the amount of inconvenience to the public. These works will be subject to weather conditions.

Getting around 
To support you to move around the area detours and traffic management will be in place.  

We recommend that road users allow extra travel time for their journey.

Footpaths will remain open to allow pedestrians access to local businesses, which will remain open during these works.  We encourage you to continue to support your local businesses during this time. 

The Main Yarra Trail will be impacted by these works. Information about bike detour routes will be available closer to works commencing. 

Local and parking impacts
The eastbound parking lane between Coppin Street and Fraser Street will be closed from Saturday 2 January.

There will be no local or driveway access to Bridge Road between Church Street and Burwood Road from 11pm Sunday 3 January to 5am Saturday 16 January.

Street parking will also be temporarily removed throughout the major works and will be reinstated on completion of works.

Residents are encouraged to park in surrounding streets prior to the works commencement date, noting local parking restrictions.

Noise and dust
Noise and dust are unavoidable, however Yarra Trams will work to minimise this as much as possible, and complete the noisiest works between 6am and 10pm.
