Coburns Road intersection safety improvements, Melton
Location:
Melton
Type:
Road
Status:
Underway
We’re improving safety for all road users travelling along Coburns Road, Melton. This is a $2.36 million project, funded by Towards Zero – Victoria’s plan to ensure no one is seriously injured or killed on our roads. As a part of Towards Zero, we’re upgrading traffic signals at high-risk intersections across Melbourne to improve safety and traffic flow on our road network.
Project update - October 2020
The final stage of work involves asphalting and line-marking at the intersections.
We will be asphalting and line-marking at:
- the Coburns Road and Barries Road intersection
- the on ramps onto the Western Freeway
We’re starting works in mid-October and expect to complete construction in November. Crews will be working at night to minimise disruption to traffic. You may see our crews working during the following times:
- 8pm to 5.30am - Sunday to Thursday
How will these works impact you?
While we’re completing these works, you can expect to see:
- temporary lane closures with signed detours in place along Western Freeway, Melton Highway and High Street
- reduced speeds of 40km/h through the works area to keep our crew and road users safe
- some noise, vibration and dust.
Project background
As a part of this project, we will be implementing controlled right turn movements at the Coburns Road/Barries Road intersection on the east and west approaches, during off peak periods.
Drivers turning right onto Western Freeway will now have a right-turn arrow, to allow them to travel through the intersection safely.
