College Crescent Road upgrades

We’re improving the road surface of College Crescent in Parkville between the Swanston Street roundabout and Princes Park Drive to provide a smoother and safer journey for everyone.

This road maintenance work will take place in early 2021 and will include replacing the pavement and road surface layers from kerb to kerb on this section of College Crescent.

What we’re doing

Starting on 12am Saturday 2 January 2021 until Sunday 17 January 2021, our crews will work from 6am to 10pm every day of the week, subject to weather conditions. These works will take place in the summer holiday period to minimise impact to road users.

College Crescent will be closed between the Swanston Street roundabout and Princes Park Drive. No access across east and west corridor between Citylink and Eastern Freeway.

Detours include Alexandra Parade, Nicholson Street, Brunswick Road, Mount Alexander Road, Flemington Road and Royal Parade, CityLink Flemington Road off ramp. A detour map will be available closer to the works.

Allow up to 30 minutes extra travel time, or plan an alternative route

During these maintenance works, there will be:

  • A full two-week closure of College Crescent between the Swanston Street roundabout and Princes Park Drive
  • Detours in place and traffic management on-site
  • Medium-high level noise, some vibration and dust
  • Restricted driveway and footpath access in the work area.
  • Essential local access will be maintained, but delays may occur.

Transport changes

These works will require PTV bus route 546 to divert around the work zone. More information on the bus changes available here. Additional traffic in the area may cause minor delays to tram routes 1, 8 and 19. We recommend that tram passengers plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey.

Our traffic management centre will be optimising the traffic flows in the area to minimise these delays.
