Derrimut Road and Leakes Road intersection upgrade

On behalf of the Victorian Government, we’re upgrading the Derrimut Road and Leakes Road intersection in Tarneit.

Project update - March 2017

Construction on the Derrimut and Leakes Road intersection has started. During construction, you will notice that the speed limit will be dropped to 40km/h an hour, this is keep the community as well as the site works safe.

We expected construction to be complete by July 2017.

Project background

In 2015 the Victorian Government provided $1.92 million and Wyndham Council provided $1 million to upgrade the Derrimut Road and Leakes Road intersection in Tarneit.

About the project

Both Derrimut Road and Leakes Road carry large traffic volumes, particularly during the morning and afternoon peak period.

The intersection upgrade includes adding and increasing  the length of traffic lanes which will reduce traffic queue lengths and improve travel times for drivers.

  • dedicated green time to turn right at each leg of the intersection
  • easy access to Tarneit Train Station  for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and buses
  • reduced travel times during the busy morning and afternoon peak period
  • reduced traffic queues lengths on both Derrimut Road and Leakes Road.

What happens next?

Construction on the Derrimut Road and Leakes Road intersection is expected to commence early 2017 with works expected to be completed by mid to late 2017.
