Dohertys Road (Foundation Road to Palmers Road)

We’re making Dohertys Road in Truganina better for local businesses, drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

Project update

The design for construction is currently being finalised ahead of commencing works on the ground from mid-2018.

Utility companies will shortly commence relocating services; and once we are on site, some of the activities that we’ll get started on include:

  • ground surveying, geotechnical studies and soil testing
  • relocating telecommunications, gas, fuel, electricity, sewer and water services so they’re not impacted during construction
  • preparing the ground to begin building lanes
  • Constructing drainage for the new roads
  • building retaining walls (to hold back earth).

We’ll also install secure fences around our worksite so we can complete works safely.

We understand that businesses and residences will need to continue to have access during the works and we are working closely with our contractors to ensure that access will be managed during the construction activities.

Project background

More than 8,000 cars and trucks use this section of Dohertys Road every day.

In addition to the strong residential growth in Wyndham, Dohertys Road connects industrial areas in the west to key freight routes and nearby freeways.

Upgrading the road means traffic will flow better, roads will be safer and you can get to where you need to be sooner.

About the project

Project details

On Dohertys Road, between Foundation Road and Palmers Road we’re:

  • adding an extra lane in each direction
  • building new traffic lights
  • creating new walking and cycling paths.

Benefits

Here are just some of the benefits of this upgrade:

  • boosts Melbourne’s biggest freight and logistics hubs that run 24/7
  • provides a more reliable east-west connection to the freeway network
  • provides better access for large distribution facilities
  • promotes walking and cycling by adding a new shared path
  • connects industrial areas in the west to key freight routes and the Port of Melbourne.
