Elgar Road and Riversdale Road intersection upgrade

We’re making it safer for motorists travelling through the intersection of Elgar Road and Riversdale Road in Surrey Hills.

Project background

This project aims to prevent crashes or reduce their severity if they occur. From 2013 to 2018, there were 11 crashes at this intersection, including nine that resulted in serious injury.

About the project

We’ll be delivering a range of safety improvements to help motorists travel safely through the intersection.

To make the intersection safer, we’ve removed two tram poles. We’ll also be:

  • installing new guard fence along Elgar Road bordering Wattle Park
  • installing a safer road surface to help motorists travelling through the intersection
  • installing a yellow advisory 40km/h speed limit sign and advanced warning signs for the upcoming curve
  • installing new LED “Give Way to Trams” signs.

These works will start in December 2019 and finish in March 2020.

To minimise disruption during peak times, we’ll be working Monday to Friday from 9am to 3.30pm.

There may be lane closures during those times. Traffic controllers will be on-site to help you move through the work area safely.

We may need to work during night time, and we’ll let you know in advance if this needs to happen.
