Frankston-Dandenong Road & O'Gradys Road intersection upgrade

We’re improving safety at the intersection of Frankston-Dandenong Road and O’Gradys Road in Carrum Downs.

Project Background

Important safety improvements are being undertaken at the intersection of Frankston-Dandenong Road and O’Gradys Road in Carrum Downs.

The works are being undertaken through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, which targets those road locations where crashes are occurring. By funding targeted road safety improvements at dangerous locations, the program aims to reduce the risk of crashes.

This intersection has been identified to have a strong crash history involving the right turn movement from Frankston-Dandenong Road into O’Gradys Road.

By fully controlling the right turn from Frankston-Dandenong Road into O’Gradys Road and Amayla Crescent, providing a single dedicated right turn lane and extending the right turn lane, we’ll be creating a safer intersection for road users.

About the Works

From Monday 22 March 2021 until early May, our crews will be working Monday to Friday from 9.30am - 3pm, with possible weekend work as required to complete these important safety improvements.

During school holidays, we’ll be extending our work hours to help us complete the work as quickly as possible.

To keep our workers safe, there will be some lane closures and safer speeds introduced through the work zone.

Electronic message boards and traffic controllers will be on-site to help motorists travel through the area safely.

Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Project Scope

As part of these works, we’ll be:

  • Fully controlling the right turn from Frankston-Dandenong Road into O’Gradys Road and Amayla Crescent and giving bus priority in the southbound direction.
  • Changing the existing right-through lane on O’Gradys Road to just a through lane
  • Extending the south approach right turn lane into O’Gradys Road to 120 metres
  • Installing queue detector loops for the south approach right turn lane
  • Upgrading the traffic signal lanterns to LED lanterns
  • Replacing the traffic signal controller to be compatible with LED signal lanterns
  • Installing public lighting
