Gap Road & Horne Street intersection upgrade, Sunbury

The Victorian Government has funded $9.6 million to install traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing at the Gap Road and Horne Street intersection, to improve safety and traffic flow.

Project update - November 2018

Overnight intersection closure and night works 11 - 29 November

In order to complete drainage relocation works from Sunday 11 November to Thursday 29 November 2018 from 12am to 6am, we are closing the intersection of Gap Road and Horne Street, Sunbury each evening excluding Friday and Saturday nights.

How will these works impact you?

From Sunday 11 November to Thursday 15 November between 12am to 6am each evening the intersection of Gap Road and Horne Street will be closed.  The intersection will be open during the day.

From Sunday 18 November to Thursday 22 November between 12am to 6am each evening the intersection of Gap Road and Horne Street will be closed. The intersection will be open during the day.

From Sunday 25 November to Thursday 29 November between 12am to 6am each evening the intersection of Gap Road and Horne Street will be closed. The intersection will be open during the day.

To minimise traffic impacts and ensure the safety of our work crews, these works need to occur at night.

We’ll have traffic detours in place during the intersection closure, so plan ahead, allow extra time and follow detour signage - see map below.

Project background

The Gap Road and Horne Street intersection carries large traffic volumes , with 21,500 vehicles per day travelling on Horne Street and 18,000 vehicles per day on Gap Road. The intersection is also a meeting point for thousands of drivers coming to and from surrounding main roads, such as Riddell Road, Sunbury Road and the Calder Freeway.

The high amount of traffic and location of the roundabout often results in long queues and delays, particularly during the morning and afternoon peaks.

The new traffic lights, pedestrian crossing and other safety treatments such as raised platforms will make it easier and safer for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to travel through the area.
