Henderson Road and Kelletts Road intersection upgrade

We’re improving safety and traffic flow by delivering a major intersection upgrade at Henderson Road and Kelletts Road in Rowville.

Project background

In Victoria, 40% of serious injuries result from crashes at intersections. We’ll be installing traffic lights and two new signalised pedestrian crossings, making it safer and easier to cross at this busy intersection.

The package of works includes important earthworks, drainage works, asphalt works and construction of new footpaths, linking to the new shared user path being delivered by Knox City Council.

It is being delivered as part of the Australian Government’s $9 million investment to upgrade Henderson Road at Kelletts Road and Ferntree Gully Road in Rowville.

About the project

As of July 2021, works on this important intersection upgrade have commenced with works to be completed in early 2022.

To minimise the impact to the local community and businesses, our crews will work outside of peak hours from 9:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 5pm on Saturdays.

So we can complete asphalt resurfacing and line marking, therewill be some night works at various times. We’ll notify the community before any night works are undertaken.

There will be some changes to parking in the area with on-street parking to be removed along the eastern side of Henderson Road near the intersection to ensure the safe operation of the new traffic lights.

What we’re doing

In addition to signalising the intersection, we’ll be delivering additional works to keep this intersection strong and safe for all road users.

This includes:

  • Drainage works at the site and surrounds
  • Construction of new footpaths, kerbs, and traffic islands
  • New street lighting
  • Pavement marking
  • Asphalt resurfacing CCTV installation

Project Benefits

The upgraded intersection will help ease congestion, improve travel times and allow safer movements in and out of Henderson Road. Newly installed pedestrian crossings will also allow pedestrians and cyclists to safely cross at this busy intersection, linking up with the new shared user path being delivered by Knox city council.
Freight operators will also benefit with the intersection upgrade making it easier and safer for freight vehicles to enter and exit Henderson Road from Kelletts Road.
