Kalkallo Creek Bridge Investigation, Hume Freeway

We’re undertaking a comprehensive geotechnical investigation of the Melbourne-bound bridge over Kalkallo Creek, on the Hume Freeway at Kalkallo.

Project update

We’re undertaking a comprehensive geotechnical investigation of the Melbourne-bound bridge over Kalkallo Creek, on the Hume Freeway at Kalkallo.

These investigations will take place on

  • Saturday 20 November
  • Saturday 27 November
  • Saturday 4 December (if required)
  • Saturday 11 December (if required)

The works will take place between 7am and 5pm and, to keep motorists and our crew safe, a speed reduction will be in place from 80km/h to 40km/h.

Our projections predict a minor delay of up to 5 minutes to traffic during this time, so we ask that you plan your travel accordingly.

Project background

We will be checking the bridge foundations to test their suitability for the super loads that we anticipate will be needing to use the Hume Freeway in the future. There are no concerns that the bridge is currently unsafe.

These tests, as part of our ongoing program of inspections and review of our road infrastructure, will determine whether any bridge strengthening works may be required.

If we determine that further works are needed, we will provide updates to this page and ensure that key stakeholders in the transport and freight industries, as well regular travellers are advised.
