Pedestrian Safety Upgrades at Arthurs Seat summit

Arthurs Seat has been made safer for pedestrians with new road crossings and speed limits on Arthurs Seat Road.

Project update - January 2022

Works to install two zebra crossings at the Arthurs Seat summit are now complete and the safer, 40km/h speed limit is now in place. Please maintain awareness of speed limit signs when travelling through the area.

About the project

To improve safety for visitors, two zebra crossings with flashing lights will be installed at either end of the summit carpark and a zebra crossing and pram ramp will be installed across the summit carpark’s eastern exit. The existing pedestrian refuge islands along Arthurs Seat Road will also be removed to provide better access for emergency fire vehicles.

A safer speed will be implemented along Arthurs Seat Road from 60km/h down to 40km/h, from 100m west of Purves Road to 100m east of Seal Rock Avenue.

When to expect us

Crews will be on site to install these upgrades from November until early December of 2021, with electronic variable message signage on site to alert drivers to the upcoming works.

Crews will be working between 7:00am and 3:30pm.

During works, there will be:

  • a lane closure in place, with traffic management to help drivers continue travelling in both directions
  • reduced speed limits to keep our crews safe

Please look out for our crews when travelling through this area and be mindful of any temporary safety signage.

This project is funded as part of the Australian Government's investment through the COVID-19 Victorian Economic Recovery Plan.
