Queens Parade and George Street, Fitzroy safety improvements

We're creating safer movement to support the new Wurun Senior Campus, which is opening in 2022 at the corner of George Street and Queens Parade, and the adjacent development of new shared sporting facilities and Fitzroy Gasworks precinct.

We're creating safer movement by:

  • Installing traffic lights at the corner of Queens Parade and George Street to provide a safer crossing location.
  • Delivering minor changes to the service roads on both the north and south sides of Queens Pde to allow for safe collection of pedestrians at the traffic lights.
  • Creating a safer route for bike riders through early access into the service road linking Queens Parade with Napier Street.

Interim changes to the Queens Parade Service lane will support the school by providing short term drop off and pick up parking, bus parking and a school loading bay while still enabling trucks to continue to support the surrounding works.

Once the school, Gasworks redevelopment and sports facilities are completed and trucks no longer need access, we will create further changes to the service lane to improve safety while assisting traffic flow for school pick up and drop off.

What to expect during works

  • Long-term parking spaces in the Queens Parade Service Road will be removed to support the school with drop off and pick-up parking, bus parking and a school loading bay.
  • Works will take place during the day.
  • During construction there may be some minor delays. Please plan your journey and allow for extra travel time.
  • Throughout construction, we’ll be maintaining access to residents and traders. If anything changes during construction, we will be in touch with you directly.

When will the project be completed?

Main construction works are expected to start in mid-November and be completed in January 2022.
