Raleigh Road Bridge shared user path upgrade, Maribyrnong

We’re upgrading and widening the paths on the Raleigh Road bridge – to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

With over 33,000 vehicles and 3,000 pedestrians and cyclists crossing the Raleigh Road bridge every day, this upgrade will encourage more people to walk and ride in the beautiful river precinct.

The Victorian Government is investing $2.7 million to provide new three-metre-wide paths on each side of the Raleigh Road Bridge.

Construction update - January 2021

We’ll start work on this project in the first week of January and expect to complete construction by the end of February 2021.

You may see our crews working during the following times:

  • Monday to Friday between 7am to 5pm

How will these works impact you?

  • To keep everyone safe, we will have a safe speed of 40km/h in the works area
  • Alternating lane closures in each direction on Maribyrnong Road between Clyde Street and Woods Street
  • Our works will occur on one side of the bridge at a time, cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use the existing pedestrian operated crossings to travel across the bridge
  • Our traffic management team will be on site to safely direct you around the work area
  • Residential and business access will be maintained at all times
  • There may be some noise and dust during works
  • There may be minor delays to tram route 57 and 82 and bus route 468 and 952
  • Please allow extra time to travel through the area

About the project

The shared user path upgrade will provide safer active transport infrastructure by:

  • Providing a safer crossing for cyclists and pedestrians on the Raleigh Road Bridge through increasing the path width to 3.0m on both sides
  • Improving connections to the river trails to the north and south of the bridge
  • Relocate tram poles to remove fixed hazards
  • Upgrades to the bridge barriers
