Repairing landslips on Donna Buang Road and Acheron Way

The Victorian Government is repairing landslip sites on Donna Buang Road and Acheron Way, following significant rainfall and severe weather conditions.

Update – January 2023

We’re repairing five landslip sites in East Warburton and Warburton; two on Acheron Way and three on Donna Buang Road:

  • Landslip repair works on Acheron Way near Road 15 have been completed. Acheron Way between 800 metres north of Road 15 to Marysville Road is now open.
  • The Acheron Way landslip near Road 4 and the Donna Buang Road landslip near the Acheron Way intersection has been further impacted by the storms in October. We are completing geotechnical investigations to assess the damage and are now expecting to complete these repairs by March 2023.
  • There are two landslips on Donna Buang Road between Mount Toolebewong and the Mt Donna Buang summit. These landslips are currently under review by geotechnical experts. Drivers will continue to have access to the Mt Donna Buang Road summit via Warburton.

How will these works impact you:

  • Acheron Way is closed between the Rainforest Gallery and Road 15. Drivers are advised to detour via Maroondah Highway, Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road and Warburton Highway.
  • There is a lane closure on Donna Buang Road near Acheron Way. One traffic lane will continue to remain open, with portable traffic lights on-site to help drivers continue travelling in both directions. Please expect minor delays.
  • Donna Buang Road will remain closed between Mount Toolebewong and the Mt Donna Buang summit for the safety of all road users and will reopen when repairs are complete and when it’s safe to do so.

Repair works will involve:

  • Excavating and removing the damaged pavement
  • Building retaining walls
  • Reinstating and stabilising the road layers
  • Building up the asphalt layers to provide a smooth and strong road for all road users
  • Drainage improvements

These vital repair and stabilisation works will help improve the safety and reliability of these roads for local communities and tourists.
