Wedge Road intersection upgrade, Carrum Downs

This intersection has been upgraded with an $8 million project, improving safety and traffic flow for all road users.

Project update – May 2016

On Wednesday 18 May the new traffic lights at this intersection were switched on for the first time, signalling the completion of the project.

The new traffic lights will help you travel through the intersection more safely and will make your journey easier. You no longer have wait for safe gaps when turning from the side roads onto Frankston-Dandenong Road.

Over the coming weeks, minor works will continue on the footpaths and amenity of the intersection.

Project details

The upgrade involved:
  • installing new traffic lights between Wedge Road, Frankston-Dandenong Road and Boundary Road in Carrum Downs
  • improving drainage with the construction of a major storm water drain on the south west corner of the intersection.

Project background

There have been 23 crashes at the intersection between Wedge Road, Frankston-Dandenong Road and Boundary Road in Carrum Downs in the five years up to December 2015, with eight of these crashes resulting in serious injuries.
