Project background
In 2014 we received $1.8 million over three years to prepare a business case for the construction of the Westall Road Extension.
The proposed Westall Road Extension passes through the Monash National Employment and Innovation Cluster (NEIC) (External link). This is Melbourne’s largest concentration of employment outside of the CBD. To manage the growing population and employment in this area, we’ll need to improve the transport network. The Westall Road Extension is expected to divert traffic and freight from nearby roads, improving traffic movement from Princes Highway to the Monash Freeway, and improving access to the Monash NEIC and the wider area.

About the project
The Westall Road Extension is proposed to follow an existing road reserve from the intersection of Westall Road/Princes Highway to the Monash Freeway
Project benefits
- Improved traffic flow in the local area by reducing traffic and freight on parallel roads such as Blackburn, Springvale and Clayton Roads.
- Improved traffic movement in and aroud the south-eastern region and Monash NEIC.
- Better freight routes to commercial areas in Moorabbin, Braeside and Dandenong South.
- Better connections to Clayton and Springvale Activity Centres.
- Opportunity to improve public transport operations on priority bus routes in the area.
Community involvement
Whether you live, work or travel in the area – we are seeking your feedback to help us understand your travel experience in the area.
Your feedback will help us to recommend a solution for future funding. The objective is to improve traffic flow in the area by diverting traffic and freight vehicles from the currently heavily trafficked roads between the existing Westall Road terminus and the Monash Freeway.
