How to dispose of a vehicle

    Step 1: Cancelling the registration

    First, you’ll need to remove the number plates and cancel the vehicle’s registration. The easiest way to do this is via your myVicRoads account.

    If you’ve got custom plates that you want to keep, you can either:

    • transfer them to another vehicle
    • store them securely.

    To put the custom plates on retention, let us know by calling us.

    Step 2: Disposing of the vehicle safely

    Once you've cancelled your rego, you can dispose of the vehicle.

    You can do this by either: 

    • selling the vehicle to an auto wrecker
    • having the vehicle collected by a vehicle disposal company.
