Register on behalf of someone else

Find out what you need to register a vehicle for someone else or a company.

To register on behalf of someone else

You can register if:

  • the person you're acting on behalf of has previously visited a VicRoads Customer Service Centre and verified their evidence of identity documents
  • you can provide evidence of identity for yourself
  • you have the appropriate forms.

What evidence of identity do I need to provide

To identify yourself, you must provide one of the following:

  • your Victorian licence or learner permit
  • a Category A document (such as a passport or full birth certificate), a Category B document (such as a Medicare card) and evidence of your address (an interstate residential address is acceptable).

What forms do I need to have

To act on behalf of another person you must also provide one of the following:

  • a completed and signed VicRoads vehicle registration form (PDF) (including the authority to act as agent section)
  • a signed VicRoads Authority to act as an agent form (PDF)
  • an original letter of authority from the person you’re acting for. This must include the following information:
    • their full name and address
    • their driver licence, learner permit or customer number (if they only have a vehicle registered in their name in Victoria)
    • their signature
    • your full name and licence or learner permit number (if applicable), as the person acting on their behalf
    • the activity or list of activities that can be performed by you on behalf of them (for example, they give you permission to renew their registration)
    • the date the authorisation is given.

To act on behalf of a company

You must provide:

  • your Victorian licence or learner permit (or a Category A and B document and evidence of your address (an interstate residential address is acceptable))
  • an original letter of authority on company letterhead which must contain:
    • full company name and address
    • the company's Australian Company Number (ACN), Australian Registered Business Number (ARBN) or Certificate of Incorporation
    • the name of person acting on behalf of the company
    • a list of activities that can be performed on behalf of the company (for example, renew registration)
    • the signature of an authorised company representative
    • date of the authorisation.

An Authority to act as an agent form (PDF) is acceptable if a company doesn’t have a letterhead.
