What are custom plates?
Custom plates give you the ability to personalise your number plates. You can choose:
- Personalised plates: allows you to choose your own design, colour, size and even letter and number combination (if available). You can create new plates or restyle your existing number plates.
- Slimline plates: narrower than standard plates, with sequential (non-personalised) combinations. Available in black with white characters, they can be purchased at VicRoads Customer Service Centres or selected car dealerships (when purchased with a vehicle). Some other styles also offer a slimline option. You can’t get slimline plates for motorcycles.
- Heritage plates: replicas of Victoria’s first number plates from the 1930s. Hand-finished in black vitreous enamel, each plate reflects the craftsmanship of the era.
- Business plates: brand your fleet with your business logo, colours and messaging.
How do I get a custom plate on my vehicle?
Depending on the type of plate or vehicle, there are a few ways you can order:
- Personalised plates/choose your own combination: offered in a wide range of styles and sizes for cars, trucks and motorcycles. They can be ordered online via the Custom Plates website, at VicRoads Customer Service Centres, or by calling our Custom Plates team.
- Non-personalised plates: sold in sequential letter/number combinations (you don’t get to choose your own combination) and offered in a limited range of styles, including our popular Slimline Black and Motorbike Black options. These plates are available via VicRoads Customer Service Centres and when you purchase a vehicle at an approved car dealership.
- Heritage Plates: these rare, historical style plates are only available via auction.
