Dealer application to cancel registration

Once completing the Dealer application to cancel registration (Dealer Certification Scheme) form (PDF) it must be faxed to the state in which the vehicle is registered.

  • The vehicle must be registered in the name of the dealer.
  • The number plates must be destroyed by cutting them into not less than three equal pieces.
  • Victorian number plates and/or the Dealer application to cancel registration form should not be returned to a VicRoads office. Interstate number plates should be returned to a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to obtain evidence that they have been returned to a Registration Authority.
  • For Victorian registration the form must be submitted to VicRoads, all other state and territory registration refund request must be directed to the state or territory to which the vehicle is registered in.
