What are your sign-in security options?
There are two key ways you can help protect your myVicRoads account:
- Passkeys – our recommended sign in method. Instead of using a password, you sign in using your device’s built-in security, such as a fingerprint, face recognition or PIN number.
- Two-step verification – adds an extra layer of security by asking you to enter a code sent to your mobile device.
Sign in with a passkey
Passkeys are our recommended authentication method.
They replace your password with your device’s built-in security – such as a fingerprint, face recognition or a PIN.
When you sign in to your myVicRoads account, we’ll ask you if you want to set this up.
Passkeys can also be set up from within the myVicRoads app.
Why use a passkey
- no password or code needed
- reduces the time it takes to log in
- easy to use and works across devices
- more secure than a password – it’s tied to your device
- stops cyber criminals from accessing your account by stealing your password or tricking you to log in to a fake website.
How to use a passkey
- Choose to sign in with passkey when logging in.
- Use your device’s fingerprint, face recognition or PIN.
- You're in – no verification code needed.
Compatible devices
Passkeys are available on:
- Apple iPhones and iPads with iOS 16+
- Android phones and tablets on Android 12+
- Apple computers on macOS 13+
- Windows computers on Windows 12+
Use two-step verification (SMS or authenticator)
If you don’t use a passkey, two-step verification gives you extra security when signing in with your email and password.
We’ll show you how to set this up when you first log in to your account.
How it works
To log in with two-step verification:
- Enter your password.
- You’ll get a 6-digit code by SMS or authenticator app.
- Enter the code to finish signing in.
To keep your login codes safe, use authenticator apps like Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator. They're more secure than text messages.
- Check you have mobile reception.
- Wait a few moments – it can take up to 1 minute.
Still didn’t get a code? Use ‘Resend code’ and we’ll send you another.
- If you keep your old phone number, the new device will get SMS codes, like before.
- If you were using an authenticator app and you can’t log in on your new device, call the myVicRoads support team.
Manage your sign-in settings
- Sign in to your myVicRoads account.
- Go to ‘Profile and Settings’ and scroll down to ‘Security’ and ‘Passkeys’.
- Set up a passkey or manage two-step verification.
If you have any issues with accessing your myVicRoads account, call the myVicRoads support team.
Keeping your account safe
- Go to Don’t get scammed for information on how to keep your account safe and avoid fraud and scams.
