Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in Volunteering for the TAC L2P Program.

The TAC L2P Program is a community-based volunteer program, assisting Victorian learner drivers aged 16 to 21 (and in some cases up to 23 years) who do not have access to a supervising driver or appropriate car gain the driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence.

We know that obtaining a driver’s licence enhances a young person’s confidence and social independence, helping them to better engage with friends and their community.

We’ve also seen extremely positive outcomes in terms of increased access to employment opportunities and education.

Importantly, learners who have had access to supervised driving experience are far less likely to be involved in a serious accident.

We are looking for enthusiastic people who can commit 1-2 hours a week to help make a difference.

If meet the following eligibility criteria, we’d love to hear from you.

  • be over 21 years of age
  • hold a current full Australian driver's licence
  • have a satisfactory driver license history report
  • be medically fit to drive (we may discuss this further through the application process)
  • not be currently working as a professional driving instructor

Additionally, as part of the application process, you will be asked to provide*:

  • a valid (volunteer) Working with Children’s Check
  • a satisfactory National Police Check

* Your local TAC L2P Coordinator can assist with these if required.

You’ll be supported throughout the TAC L2P Journey

Our TAC L2P Programs provide initial and ongoing support to our volunteer mentors. As a volunteer you will work with and be responsible to the community organisation you are matched with, who will work with you in:

  • Ensuring you are appropriately trained and have a comprehensive understanding of the program.
  • Providing ongoing mentor training which looks at various aspects of supporting young people on their driving journey.
  • Providing you with the opportunity to connect with other mentors in your community.
  • Providing you with access to book a TAC L2P Program car.

If you’re interested, we’d love to hear from you. To find your nearest L2P Program, go to TAC L2P Program and use the search field to enquire / apply.
