Check your demerit point balance
Before you check your demerit point balance, remember that all drivers start with zero demerit points. If you haven’t committed any offences which incurred demerit points, you’ll have zero demerit points.
To check your demerit point balance, you can:
Your demerit point balance is dependent on VicRoads being notified of any offences by other agencies (eg. Fines Victoria (External link) or Courts (External link)).
If you have an interstate or overseas licence (or no Victorian licence) and you haven’t got a myVicRoads account, you’ll need to visit a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to check your demerit balance.
Get a copy of your driver history or licence verification letter
Checking your demerit points will only give you the balance of your points, without any information about offences incurred.
For a small fee, you can order a copy of the following:
- 5-year demerit point history* and full driving record
- Complete driver history and full driving record
- Licence verification letter
- 5-year demerit point history*
*This report only contains details of any traffic offences incurred within the last 5 years, it is not a complete driver history report and does not contain details of any non-demerit offences.
If you are ordering a driver history report for an overseas driver licence application to prove your driving experience in Victoria, please check whether they will accept your report via email. If original documentation is required, please order your driver history report by phone or visiting a VicRoads Customer Service Centre (details below) to receive a printed report.
How to order a driver history report or licence verification letter
To order a report you can:
- Login to your myVicRoads account and click on 'Licences & Learner Permits' to complete the driver history order form. Before placing your order, please ensure your email address is updated and correct, as the email address cannot be updated once placed. Please allow up to 24 hours for this email to arrive.
- Call us on 13 11 71. Reports ordered by phone will be mailed to the address that’s on your licence or permit (or your postal address) within 7-10 business days.
- Visit a VicRoads Customer Service Centre (make sure you bring your evidence of identity) to get a driver history report printed immediately.
You can pay for your report online or over the phone using VISA or Mastercard*. If you’re at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre you can also pay with cheque, EFTPOS or cash**.
*A credit card fee applies.
**All VicRoads Customer Service Centres accept cash except for:
Non-Victorian licence holders
You can get a letter to confirm you didn’t hold a licence when you lived in Victoria.
Note: if you incurred a traffic offence when living in Victoria, you will be provided with a 5 year demerit point history report for a small fee.
